When you choose custom framing, you create a quality

one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your style and taste or those of your friend or loved one.

With the assistance of a professional designer, you peruse a wide selection of quality materials and special touches and select those that make the image or keepsake come to life. You are part of the creative process and can take pride in partnering with the painter, photographer, stitcher, etc. to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that will bring you, a friend or a loved one pleasure for many years to come.

When designing a piece, you, with the help of a professional designer, select the wood or metal frame with just the right shape, width, texture, finish, color and decorative accents to make the image or keepsake dazzle. You also have the opportunity to select one or more mats that enhance or complement the colors and textures of the image or keepsake. You can also select from the many extras that will add that special touch.

These extras include, but aren't limited to:

FILLETS

Fillets are thin pieces of wood that can be inserted around a mat's opening (left image) or the inside edge of a frame.(right  image). Fillets come in a variety of finishes, colors, widths and patterns. They add color, depth, richness and interest to a piece.

SPACERS

Spacers are thin pieces of acrylic or light weight cardboard-like material (i.e., foamcore) that are inserted between the image and mat, between mats, or on the glass. The resulting physical space within the piece adds depth and drama.

MULTIPLE FRAMES

Accenting a frame with an inner frame of similar or contrasting shape, width, texture, finish, color and/or decorative accents adds substance, interest, depth and sophistication to a piece.

PAINTED OR REVERSE BEVELS

A mat board's opening is cut at a 45-degree angle, which results in an attractive sloping edge or “bevel.” Painting a bevel blue, red, green, yellow, gold, silver or any other color adds crispness to a piece and a touch of color.

With a reverse bevel, a mat’s 45-degree angle opening cut appears on the reverse side of the mat. The resulting absence of a sloping edge – or bevel – brings the mat's color right up to the image or another mat and adds a feeling of space. A reverse bevel adds crispness and drama to a piece.

Here are two pieces with reverse bevels.

V-GROOVES

“V”-shaped grooves cut into the surface of a mat add color, depth and interest to a piece. V-grooves are particularly attractive in large blank areas such as along the sides of a sports jersey and between images in a multi-image piece. V-grooves may be painted any color.

(Several examples of some of the above features may also be found in our Sales Gallery.)
